U.S. Patent #5,856,779

GL1800 SPOILER RUNNING LIGHT / FLASHING BRAKE LIGHT KIT

Installation Instructions:  Contents: Hyper-Lite  flasher/control module;  3 red tap in connectors; 2 UR (Telco) end connectors; 5 ft 22 ga. double wire wit bullet connectors; two wire ties; instructions

Note: The RED Hyper-Lite wire must be connected between the brake light switch and the brake light bulb(s).

1.        The flasher is set to flash continuously as long as the brake is applied.  To convert to a 5 second flash and then go solid as long as the brake is applied, cut the green wire loop coming out of the flasher.  Use electrical tape to protect and secure the green wires to the other wires.

2.        Remove the seat.

3.        Remove the license plate and the rear center filler plate.

4.        Remove the trunk upper liner (19 screws).  See Figure 1

5.        Unplug the Spoiler wires at the bullet connectors.

6.        Route the speaker wire (provided), blank ends first, along the wiring harness from the spoiler to the Black wiring boot at the rear, near the center of the bike.

7.        Connect the WHITE spoiler wire bullet connector to the Hyper-Lite FEMALE bullet connector.  Connect the BLACK spoiler wire to the Hyper-Lite MALE bullet connector.  See Figure 2.

8.        Tie the Hyper-Lite wires to the existing wire holders.  Use the two included wire ties to tie the Hyper-Lite wires to the wiring harness next to the trunk hinge.  See Figure 3.

9.        Reinstall the trunk upper lid.

10.     Locate the RED Three Pin connector, RED Two Pin Connector, and BROWN Two Pin Connector in the BLACK Wiring Boot.

11.     Connect the GRAY wire from the Hyper-Lite Flasher to the BROWN with WHITE STRIPE wire in the RED Three Pin Connector.  Connect the RED Hyper-Lite flasher wire to the GREEN with RED STRIPE wire in the RED Two {Pin Connector.  Connect the BLACK Hyper-Lite flasher wire to the GREEN wire in the BROWN Two Pin Connector.

12.     Connect the stripped end of the WHITE wire with lettering  that you routed fromn the trunk to the Hyper-Lite Flasher BLUE wire using one of the End Connerctors (see installation instructions below).  Connect the remaining (plain WHITE) routed wire to the Hyper-Lite BROWN flasher wire using the remaining End Connector.

13.     Turn the ignition on.  The spoiler should come on as a running light.  Apply the motorcycle brakes.  The spoiler light should now flash as a brake light.

14.     Reinstall the rear center filler plate and license plate.

15.     Reinstall the seat.

End Connectors:  The UR connectors (also known as Telco connectors)  are extremely effective in making positive, weatherproof connections.  However, if they are installed incorrectly your Hyper-Lite kit will not function.  Here are a couple of tips for successful installation.

1.        All wires must be butted to the far end of the connector.

2.        The RED DOT MUST be seated flush to or below the clear plastic rim of the connector
